Drinkin’ Songs: True Souse Edition

4 Deuces: W-P-L-J

[purchase]

Some white port & lemon juice, brothers and sisters, and you'll be loose as a goose. 'Nuff said, cause back in 1956, the 4 Deuces had it covered.

Rod Stewart: What Made Milwaukee Famous (Has Made A Loser Out Of Me)

[purchase]

Popularized by Jerry Lee Lewis, I'll always love this version by Rod Stewart. Originally only available via the most modern music delivery system of the day, the 8-Track tape. Now, with the advent of digital technology, it's available in all its compressed glory.

The Beat Farmers: Baby's Liquored Up

[purchase]

Here's to the late, great Country Dick Montana and The Beat Farmers. Perhaps one of the best live bands you've never heard of, Dick's idea of a good time was spraying the audience with shaken, not stirred, bottles of Corona beer, then jumping head-first from the stage into the crowd. I don't think I'd ever seen anyone leave sober, a Beat Farmers show was truly a communal experience, albeit a drunken one.

ZZ Top: Thunderbird

[purchase]

There was a time when ZZ Top was a serious band to be reckoned with. Billy Gibbons can play the hell out of the guitar, and he has cred - he was part of the '60s Psychedelic Blues-Rock group, The Moving Sidewalks and held his own jamming with Jimi Hendrix. After MTV came along, ZZ Top reconstituted itself a novelty act and now they're pretty well forgotten, so I don't have to cringe posting this song. Here the fellows sing about the joys of that wonderful fermented wine, Thunderbird, found in all the finer alleyways across the land. Before you lift that paper wrapped bottle to your lips, don't forget to spill one for all the homiez no longer with us.
