Name-Droppers: Max´s Kansas City

- Hey man, what´s happening, where you goin´ tonight?
- Well... I think I´m going down to Max´s and check out a couple of rock ´n´ roll bands...
- Oh yeah? Who´s playing there these days?

Transsexual punkrocker Wayne County sure knew the answer to that question. Bringing a masquerade mask, an ego trip and a fine Sweet Jane riff, he/she managed to name-drop more or less the whole New York punk scene in just one song.

Max´s Kansas City (213 Park Ave. South) was the more decadent brother to CBGB´s, and hosted all the bands that mattered at the time. The New York Dolls of course (who, sings County, "started it all"), Lou Reed, Iggy, Patti Smith (the "Stagger Lee of rock ´n´ roll..."), Blondie, the Ramones, Pere Ubu, Suicide, Television, and a big bunch of young hopefuls whose names are now all but lost in the mists of time. The Psychotic Frogs anyone?
